Creating Candidate-Specific Slack Channels in Guide

Create candidate-specific Slack channels that include recruiters, coordinators and interviewers — all from within Guide

Updated this week

🔧 What This Feature Does

Guide lets you create a dedicated Slack channel for any candidate — at any point in the interview process.

When you use this feature:

  • Guide will generate a channel name (based on the candidate’s name or initials)

  • Pre-fill a structured intro message with the full interview schedule, formatted for Slack

  • Automatically invite:

    • The Hiring Team (candidate’s recruiter & coordinator)

    • All interviewers who have been scheduled with the candidate so far

This makes it easy to align on candidate experience, prep interviewers, and collaborate in real-time — all without jumping between apps.

✨ When to Use It

You can create the Slack channel at any point in the process, but we recommend doing it after the full interview panel has been scheduled. That way, all relevant interviewers will be automatically added to the Slack channel when it’s created.

Currently, once the channel is created:

  • It cannot be edited or retroactively updated with new participants

  • For existing Slack threads, see the workaround below

🛠️ How to Set It Up

  1. Enable the Slack Integration with Additional Permissions

Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack and grant the required permissions. This is a one-time setup by an admin.

  2. Open Any Candidate’s Profile

Once Slack is connected, you’ll see an “Add Slack Channel” button near the top of the candidate’s profile view.

  3. Schedule the Interviews First (Recommended)

The channel will only auto-invite users who have already interacted with the candidate (e.g., recruiter, coordinator, past/present interviewers).

➕ If you click it before interviews are scheduled, only the hiring team will be included.

  4. Click “Add Slack Channel”

    Guide will:

    • Suggest a channel name

    • Pre-fill a Slack message including the interview schedule (with time zones, day breaks, etc.)

    • Add relevant team members as invitees (you can manually adjust before sending)

  5. Click “Create Channel”

The Slack channel is created and linked directly from the candidate profile.

Customize your channel:

The default/pre-populated Slack message will look like this:

⚠️ What This Feature Does Not Do Yet

  • No edits after creation: You can’t retroactively add interviewers to the auto-invite list or update the original post.

  • No posting into existing channels: If you’re using an existing Slack channel, use the Copy Schedule feature (see below).

💡 How to Share a Schedule into an Existing Channel

Guide doesn't yet support auto-generated messages into existing Slack channels.

If you don’t want to create a new channel, Guide offers a flexible Copy Schedule feature:

  1. From the candidate’s profile, click “Copy Schedule”

2. Choose your desired time zone & copy

3. Paste into any Slack thread — the format is Slack-optimized and easy to read

This is a great option for sharing updates into team-wide or function-specific channels.
