Route queue tasks using scheduler working hours

Queue auto-assignment can prioritize members who are currently working. Each member's scheduler working hours are separate from their interview hours, so scheduling work and interview availability can follow different schedules.

Set organization defaults

Organization admins can configure the default behavior in Settings → Organization → Scheduling defaults → Queue auto-assignment.

  1. Set Scheduler working hours to the default schedule for members who receive queue assignments.

  2. Turn on Prefer members within working hours to prioritize members whose scheduler working hours include the current time.

  3. Optionally turn on Leave unassigned when everyone is outside working hours to keep a task on the queue without a user assignee when nobody eligible is currently working.

Both policies are off by default. Scheduler working hours default to Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, until the organization or member changes them.

Configure a scheduling queue

Open Settings → Organization → Scheduling queues, then create or edit a queue and open its Automatic assignment settings.

The queue inherits both working-hours policies from the organization. Changing either policy creates an override for that queue. Select Reset to remove an override and use the current organization value again.

Leave unassigned when everyone is outside working hours appears only while Prefer members within working hours is on. Hiding the setting does not clear a saved override.

Set your working hours

Members who can receive queue assignments can set their own schedule in Settings → Personal → Preferences → Queue auto-assignment. Under Working hours, choose the times when you are available for queue auto-assignment.

Your schedule inherits the organization default until you override it. Times are displayed in your timezone. These hours do not change when you can be scheduled as an interviewer; configure that separately under Interview hours.

How assignment works

When Prefer members within working hours is off, queue auto-assignment continues to use the queue's assignment strategy across all otherwise-eligible members.

When the preference is on:

  • If one or more eligible members are within their working hours, the queue's existing assignment strategy chooses among those members.

  • If everyone eligible is outside working hours and Leave unassigned when everyone is outside working hours is off, Guide applies the assignment strategy across the full eligible queue.

  • If everyone eligible is outside working hours and the leave-unassigned setting is on, the task stays on the queue without a user assignee.

Inactive and out-of-office members remain ineligible. Manual assignment can still assign a task outside working hours.

Note: Working hours are checked when an existing queue auto-assignment attempt runs. Guide does not retry a task automatically when someone's working hours begin. If neither the member nor organization has a timezone, the member remains eligible.
